Laser Bevel Angle & Type (Max ±45°)

When it comes to sheet metal fabrication, laser bevel cutting is a game‑changing process that eliminates secondary grinding, chamfering, and welding preparation. Our laser beveling system supports a maximum cutting angle of ±45°, delivering clean, accurate bevels in one step. But how do you choose the right bevel angle and bevel type for your project? This guide breaks it down simply for engineers, fabricators, and production managers.

CypNest supports the following bevel types: V-bevel (V uphill, V downhill), Y-bevel (Y uphill, Y downhill), X-bevel, K-bevel, V-type special bevel, and special bevel.

Chamfering/Angle Cutting The actual part to be cut is called a “part,” which is displayed in gray on the software interface.

Angle Cut: The part cut off is the part; the lead wire is on the outside.

Chamfering: The part left after cutting off the blank is the part; the lead wire is on the inside.

Upward/Downward Bevel: A bevel facing upwards is an upward bevel, and facing downwards is a downward bevel.

Only V-bevels and Y-bevels distinguish between upward and downward bevels; X-bevels and K-bevels have both upward and downward bevels and are not differentiated.

Upward/Downward Bevel

Angle/Bevel Width/Residual Height

Bevel Angle (∠1): The angle between the direction of the cutting head’s sway and the vertical direction.

Bevel Width (w1): The upper bevel width is the horizontal distance between the upper surface of the bevel and the outermost edge section; the lower bevel width is the horizontal distance between the lower surface of the bevel and the outermost edge section. (Width of the slope in the horizontal direction)

Residual Height (h): The blunt edge thickness (straight cutting thickness) of the Y-slope and K-slope.

Drawing Size

The root gap of the bevel is the groove cut for a full penetration weld, recessed slightly inward relative to the base pattern. This allows molten material to flow to the bottom, penetrating the root and achieving higher weld strength. This recessed distance is referred to as the root gap in the software.

The bevel toolpath is displayed with the upper surface trajectory showing the layer color of the current contour, and the lower surface trajectory showing a highlighted white thick line.
